This presentation is based on the numerous studies of the FTTH Council Europe and will fist give an overview of the situation of FTTH in Europe and worldwide. Then it will discuss the three aspects of sustainable development: society, economy and environment.
The presentation will prove:
- FTTH and Environmental Sustainability: why FTTH- networks have a positive impact on the environment
- FTTH and Economic Sustainability: how FTTH can contribute to economic growth
- FTTH and Social Sustainability: why FTTH improves the quality of life

Neste momento, e principalmente nos edifícios mais antigos, colocar fibra em casa de um cliente é uma verdadeira aventura cujo desfecho nunca é conhecido à priori.
É urgente que a regulação estabeleça procedimentos de acesso (tanto na via pública como na rua) que garantam igualdade de oportunidades, adequação tecnológica e soluções para o futuro

How a simple strand of fiber saved 600 jobs in a 3,500 habitants town
This presentation will illustrate the bottom-up approach, by three different business cases of three different towns, in three different Rural areas, which are planning to deploy their own Muni FTTH networks. In Champagne, the local authority of Montmirail will keep its main local employer and thus get Fiber-To-The-Home. In southern Ile-de-France, the small village of La Grande Paroisse is to offer innovative Next Gen services to both its Elders and GenY population. In the Alpes, a well known Ski Resort will use Fiber in order to get its foreign visitors back.

Telecom Italia domestic NGN2 plan & first deployment experiences with new cabling technologies
In 2008 Telecom Italia started its NGN2 with a technical trial in the Milan area. The deployment of fiber in access network, is continuing in other areas (e.g. in Rome area), in order to provide the growing bandwidth our customers and our networks need. The use of new cabling technologies in these activities is essential to contain capex and to minimize the social impact of civil works.
